To meet the needs of members of the press, psychology students and faculty, members of the Association, and the inquiring public this collection has been gathered to call attention to the steady stream of inspiring and enlightening books and videos in the growing field of birth psychology.
Books in Sections I, II, and III are selected popular books, currently in print and available in the English language. They have a major (not minor) focus on psychological data and issues of the period from preparation for pregnancy through the postpartum period and establishment of breastfeeding. Similarly, the Journals and Edited Collections cited in Section IV concentrate on this same period of development.
Books in Section V are works with a general focus outside the parameters above but are judged to have important theoretical and scientific implications for prenatal and perinatal psychology.
All works are in chronological order to show how this body of literature has developed.
Selection for this list does not imply endorsement by the Association which embraces experts and learners with different points of view. Authors of the "Top Ten" books in Sections I, II, and III, are highlighted in red to indicate that they have had extraordinary public influence through wider than usual circulation, multiple printings or editions, and have been translated into other languages.
This list of Books & Videos is updated periodically. Authors of recent books and videos are invited to contact the Review Editor, Donna Worden for possible review in the Journal of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health, and for inclusion in this list. The editors will appreciate being alerted to new publications and productions with a major focus on birth psychology.David B. Chamberlain, Ph.D., Editor
