"Where Is My Mother." Supporting mother-infant attachment in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
When newborns require hospitalization in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, normal mother-infant bonding and attachment is always interrupted. This lecture will describe the effects of separation during newborn hospitalization on infants and their mothers and will explore ways to heal the wounds that inevitably result. A model will be proposed to care for premature and sick newborns with minimal mother-infant separation.
