David B. Cheek Memorial Lecture

This lecture was established to honor David B. Cheek, noted and much-loved obstetrician who spent 40 years teaching hypnosis to physicians, counselors, and psychologists and writing 50 papers and books – most of which emphasized the importance of psychology in all aspects of reproduction and childbirth. David was a devoted member of APPPAH, spoke at many of our conferences from the beginning in 1983, and served on our Board of Directors for five years, prior to his death in June 1996 at the age of 84. We are honored to have Joel M. Evans, MD deliver the 2012 Cheek Memorial Lecture. A frequent lecturer on Holistic Health Care, Dr. Evans is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a Founding Diplomate of the American Board of Holistic Medicine and recognized as the first physician in Connecticut to be Board Certified in both Holistic Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Past lecturers include Marshall Klaus, MD (1997); Lewis Mehl-Madrona, MD, PhD (1999); Leo Sorger, MD (2001); Eva Gundberg, MD (2003); Rene Van de Carr, MD, and Kristin Van de Carr, PhD (2005); Bethany Hays, MD (2007); Rupert Linder, MD (2009); Paul Brenner, MD (2010); Phyllis Klaus, MFT (2011).
