Poster Session - Benefits of Transcendental Meditation to Babies in Military Families

Fri, 11/15/2013 - 20:30 to Sat, 11/16/2013 - 20:00

Transcendental Meditation (TM) and other types of meditation are not currently documented as a relaxant for parents and newborns. The problem of increased stress for families, especially, military families, however, is well researched (APA, 2007; Chandra, 2011). This prolonged stress of parent absence results in child abuse, aggravated post-traumatic syndrome, decreased parenting abilities including lack of patience, and decreased awareness of children’s unique developmental changes (Chandra, 2011). Currently there is increased research and funding in this area of rehabilitation of military families through various techniques available (Elder et all, 2009, MUM Development, 2011).
