Sharing Space Creating the International MotherBaby Childbirth Initiative (IMBCI): Anthropologically Informed Activism1

This article tells the story of the creation of an international initiative designed to
improve childbirth care and childbirth and breastfeeding outcomes for all women and my
role in that process—a role that I felt very privileged to play and that was specifically
informed by my anthropological perspective.
