I migrated to Australia (Alice Springs) from Cuba in 2009. I’m a clinical midwife, a certified childbirth educator, and a researcher. I’m a PhD candidate at Griffith University. My research topic is related to the experience of internationally qualified Midwives and Obstetricians providing maternity care in rural and remote areas of Australia. Providing maternity care in Central Australia to mostly First Nation and migrant women made me appreciate the importance of having “the village” to support each other to thrive and become resilient in the face of adversity. My other revelation: Midwifery does not have a “one size fits all” approach. I became a certified Pre and Perinatal Educator through the Association of Pre and Perinatal Psychology and Health (APPPAH) in 2021. Since then, I have incorporated APPPAH’s paradigm into my midwifery practice with positive feedback from families eager to embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth.
